Painter of still life,
florals & atmosphere
Hello!
Thank you for dropping in, appreciated! Let me tell you a little about me…
I was born in Yorkshire, in a large, creative family. 25 years ago, I moved to the wide, open landscapes of Lincolnshire, but my journey into painting feels like a second, deeply personal chapter in a much longer creative life. For over 30 years, I worked internationally in fashion and interior design—a career that took me across the world and immersed me in colour, culture, and craftsmanship. Returning to the easel in 2020, during an unexpected period of stillness, was not something I had planned, but it became something I truly needed.
What began simply as a way to fill time quickly grew into something more meaningful. I started out painting in a realistic style, focusing on portraits and landscapes, but it wasn’t long before I felt drawn towards a more experimental approach. In many ways, it echoed the freedom and innovation I had always loved in fashion. My instinct to explore didn’t disappear—it simply shifted from working with fabrics to working with paint.
Painting every day, I developed a more intuitive practice, guided by curiosity and a renewed sense of perspective. Interestingly, instead of looking outward for inspiration, as I had done for so much of my career, I began to find it much closer to home. Often, it was right there on my kitchen table—the quiet, overlooked poetry of everyday life revealing itself in new and unexpected ways.
I work primarily in acrylic, creating contemporary still life and floral paintings characterised by vibrant brushwork and layered surfaces. I often incorporate collage, oil pastels, and charcoal, building texture and depth in a way that feels immediate and responsive. Through this process, I aim to capture both the energy and the stillness of everyday ordinary things, transforming them into something more atmospheric and emotionally resonant.
My art is inspired by the ‘poetry of ordinary things’
My work is inspired by both the extraordinary and the everyday—the quiet beauty of familiar objects, places, and moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. I want my paintings to invite people to pause, to feel, and to reconnect with the beauty of the present moment—because, more often than not, it’s right there, in front of us.
