SECRET GARDEN
My garden is a place of refuge, a quiet, contemplative haven full of nooks and crannies to sit awhile. The borders are overflowing with blowsy English roses, and old fashioned country flowers, but there is one place that really captures my imagination. It’s a totally overgrown path that winds through the trees and bushes at the bottom of the garden (the neglected bit) where ferns grow in the shade, and snowdrops and primroses bloom in secret. This painting recalls the feeling of walking through those secret pathways to a hidden garden seat.
ACRYLIC/COLLAGE ON PAPER/WOOD PANEL
Set in an elegant St Ives white frame it measures 48 x 38cm (unframed art measures 38 x 28cm)

Gardens are full of colour, life and inspiration. And if there is one place that really captures my imagination, it’s a secret place that is seldom seen and has its own microclimate. I love the abundant ferns that grow there, peeking out of mossy stones, unfurling like ballet dancers. I’ve tried to capture that feeling in this abstract painting. It’s a quiet place, shielded from the rest of the busy garden, and I like to sit here and write or sketch, unseen, unnoticed.
