My goal was to capture the feelings I had travelling in Japan. The beautiful strangeness of the countryside, the stunning architecture, both ancient and modern, the exquisite gardens with trickling water, natural stone sculptures, and beautifully clipped trees. I was mesmerised by the vibrant crowds in the cities, where traditional costume meets outlandish fashion head on, and both work perfectly. This painting is multi layered, and multi-textured, just like Japan. The black lines depict the indecipherable (to me) language on every sign post and shop window - I have never felt so lost as when trying to fathom out the names of the streets. A truly memorable experience, captured in paint.
