THE MAGIC TREE
Inspired by a poem I read by Celine Rose Mariotti: The magic tree, It calls to me, It brings me whispers of things to be.
I love poetry and am often moved to paint by words and phrases that conjure up images to me. This poem took me straight back to childhood! “I don’t have a magic tree” would be mum or dad’s retort when we asked for things they couldn’t afford.

I began to paint a simple abstract playground, as I often do, using my favourite colours mixed from a limited palette. Layering on the collage for added texture, and words, too… I love words in any form. I paint intuitively, so the lines of a magic tree, with golden leaves and red apples seemed to want to be centre stage. I, of course, went with the flow.
